It is your responsibility to do this prior to commencing your trip. Kalejo cannot obtain visas on your behalf.

Please note that most countries require your passport to be valid for 6 months from the date of entry and must have at least 2 blank pages.

About the Trips

  • Your Travel Expert is your onboard concierge. They’re full of information and handy hints and will be with you throughout the trip to make sure that everyone is comfortable and the itinerary runs smoothly.

Our expert team have a minimum of ten years’ experience in tourism. They have travelled extensively growing their understanding and insight into different cultures, they know all the coveted hotspots and hidden gems and most importantly, they hold the keys to an unforgettable and carefree experience.

  • Local Insiders are based in specific cities or towns and provide our travellers with the inside stories and secrets that add the most colour to their trip.

  • At Kalejo, we take your safety and security very seriously. We have a strong network of Travel Experts, ground operators and colleagues which help us stay informed in all the destinations that we operate. We closely monitor local situations, which enable us to make the operational decisions necessary to keep our tours running safely. Millions of people travel the world each year and experience enjoyable and safe trips, but crimes against people and property are sadly a fact of life. Please remember that you have the same responsibility for your personal safety and possessions as you do at home. It is essential to prepare for safe and healthy travel abroad.

Therefore, before you travel, we strongly recommend that you visit your government’s travel advisory website for up to date travel advice on the countries that you are visiting. These websites generally provide useful information on subjects such as safety and security information, health precautions and medications, health insurance and additional tips for traveling abroad. We recommend that you review the safety guidance that may be provided by us, our agents or suppliers, either before you go or when you arrive in your destination.

We do know that in spite of careful planning, things can sometimes still go wrong, so rest assured, we will be there to help and support you, but as a condition of travel with us, Travel Insurance is compulsory.

  • We want to make sure that you are well looked after throughout your trip. If you have any allergies, intolerances or dietary preferences, please ensure you notify us of your request at the time of booking, or by email at least 48 hours prior to your trip commencement.

Please note that included meals are group based and often reflect the cuisine local to the country that we are in, more so than those of the countries you originate from. Tasting local dishes is part of your travel experience, however, should you prefer any snacks / foods you are used to from home, please feel free to bring some with you.

  • While your Travel Expert can assist with finding laundromats throughout the trip, it can be rare to find the time to use them while travelling. On two night stops, arrangements can be made with hotel reception – but please be advised that as in all hotels worldwide, this service can be costly. It is advised to bring a range of clothing that will get you through the journey.

  • Kalejo only uses modern and comfortable coaches that feature first class air conditioning, comfortable seating, Wi-Fi and an onboard bathroom for your comfort.

  • In general, you can dress just as you would at home while in Europe.

When visiting religious buildings, we may have to obey the guidelines of having covered shoulders, chest and knees. A light shawl is a handy item to bring - especially to cover up in warmer climates.

For your comfort, we would also recommend packing several light layers to adjust for warmer and cooler days.

  • Kalejo aims to deliver trips that are comfortable and enjoyable for people of all fitness levels. However, in order to access the best parts of European cities, a moderate level of walking is necessary. We often walk the narrow pedestrian streets of old cities, where uneven, cobblestoned surfaces are common. We advise all guests to pack a pair of good, reliable walking shoes.

If you are concerned about your abilities, or travel with any kind of walking aid, please contact us to discuss the suitability of your preferred trip.

  • Tipping is common practice for services in Europe. While we have taken care of most of it, including the chambermaids, porters, waiters etc., here are some instances you may wish to consider leaving a gratuity of your own:

    • When you are dining on your own, as a general rule, 10-15% is the recommended amount. Always check the receipt at a restaurant first to see if a service charge has already been added. Servers will generally not have the function of adding a tip to card payment. If you wish to leave a tip, cash is best.

    • As per your pre trip documentation, if you enjoyed the service of one of our Local Insiders, €2 per person is an adequate gesture.

    • If you have been pleased with the services of your Kalejo team, an average gratuity for your Travel Expert is €5 per person per day, and €3 per person per day for Drivers.

What to Bring

  • Specific currency advice relevant to your itinerary will be sent to you with your trip documents. However, when visiting Europe, it is always handy to carry a little Euro cash - even in countries that do not use Euro as the official currency.

We recommend travelling with a travel money card / currency card rather than carrying large amounts of cash. These can be obtained from most banks or Travelex for example.

If using your regular credit card, please ensure you advise your bank of your travel plans so that no limitations are placed on your card while travelling.

Your Travel Expert will be able to assist you with changing money / obtaining currency once the tour commences.

Please note that American dollars are not commonly accepted in Europe.

  • Due to space constraints on our coaches, each guest is limited to one large suitcase. Porterage is also covered for one bag per guest, and we ask that you take your small carry on luggage with you.

Any requests for excess luggage must be received in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the trip commencement and cannot be guaranteed.

  • Here are some handy items we recommend bringing on your trip:

    • European plug converters/adapters. (2 round pin 220-240V).

    • Some aspirin, ibuprofen, Imodium, cold/flu/cough medicine, and vitamins, just in case. If you prefer antibiotics, bring these also.

    • Antibacterial hand sanitizers.

    • Ample supply of face masks.

    • Copies of your medical insurance and prescriptions, as well as any medication from home.

    • A travel pillow for travel days.

    • If you like to use a face cloth or washcloth, you may wish to bring one along, as they are not often found in European hotels.

    • A good pair of comfortable walking shoes.

    • A copy of the itinerary and hotel address list with emergency phone numbers.

    • Refillable water bottle. In line with our sustainability initiatives, we recommend guests bring a refillable plastic water bottle along to minimise our use of single use plastics.

    • A light jacket and umbrella. Even in summer months, we can experience some cooler mornings and patches of rain. Come well prepared for a variety of temperatures with several layers.

  • To use your electrical appliances and chargers, you will need a European plug converter/adapter (2 round pin 220-240V).

  • While your Travel Expert can assist with finding laundromats throughout the trip, it can be rare to find the time to use them while travelling. On two night stops, arrangements can be made with hotel reception – but please be advised that as in all hotels worldwide, this service can be costly.
